What If the Seam Is Wrinkled or Buckled?

Not every raised seam is caused by adhesive failure.

If the turf remains structurally intact but develops wrinkles or localized buckling, the underlying cause may be thermal movement or installation tension.

Common causes include:

  • Installation during unusually cold or hot conditions
  • Excessive tension during installation
  • Insufficient acclimatization before installation
  • Uneven substrate movement
  • Excessive restraint at the perimeter
  • Expansion and contraction of polymer-based materials

The correct solution is normally to release the accumulated stress and reinstall the affected section, rather than simply gluing the wrinkle down.

Do not aggressively stretch hot artificial turf. Excessive force can damage the backing or create additional stress that appears later when temperatures change.
