Seam Damage with Backing Tears: Use Seam Tape

When the backing itself has torn, simply adding adhesive to the surface usually provides only a temporary solution.

A reinforced seam tape system is more appropriate.

Typical repair procedure

  1. Lift the turf on both sides of the damaged seam.
  2. Remove loose backing material.
  3. Clean the substrate and allow it to dry.
  4. Position the seam tape centrally underneath the joint.
  5. Apply the compatible adhesive system.
  6. Lower the turf gradually while maintaining correct alignment.
  7. Apply uniform pressure across the seam.
  8. Allow the adhesive to cure fully before use.

For sports applications, wider reinforcement tape may be appropriate because seams can experience significant shear forces during running, turning and sliding.

The exact tape width and adhesive thickness should follow the turf manufacturer’s installation specification rather than using one universal dimension.
