How to Verify Whether a Fiber Structure Is Actually Good

When comparing suppliers, don’t rely only on product brochures.

Ask for laboratory evidence covering:

Fiber performance

  • Fiber thickness
  • Dtex
  • Cross-sectional dimensions
  • Tensile properties
  • Recovery characteristics

System durability

  • Abrasion resistance
  • Fiber pull-out / tuft bind
  • Dimensional stability
  • Weathering or UV resistance
  • Simulated wear performance

Environmental performance

For European projects, chemical compliance should be checked against applicable REACH requirements, while specific project specifications may also require testing for restricted substances, VOC emissions, PAHs, phthalates, heavy metals, or other substances.

Sports performance

Depending on the application:

  • Shock absorption
  • Vertical deformation
  • Slip resistance
  • Ball roll
  • Ball rebound
  • Rotational resistance
  • Surface uniformity

This approach provides a much more reliable picture than simply asking, “How many Dtex does your grass have?”
