1. Rainfall intensity and duration
A short shower and a prolonged storm can produce very different drainage demands.
Total rainfall volume, rainfall intensity and the capacity of the drainage system all matter.
2. Temperature and humidity
Warm, relatively dry conditions generally encourage evaporation, while cold and humid conditions can slow the final drying stage.
3. Wind and airflow
Air movement can accelerate evaporation from the turf surface.
This is particularly relevant to rooftops, balconies and open outdoor sports facilities.
4. Foundation and drainage structure
The turf cannot drain faster than the system underneath can accept and discharge water.
A properly engineered permeable foundation or drainage structure is therefore essential.
5. Site orientation and shade
Areas that receive little sunlight or airflow may remain damp considerably longer than exposed areas of the same field.
