  • Simple but stunning surface design

Developing the step story in artificial grass from that first 2019 installation in plain green with a simple one-step logo, this year’s artwork features red, yellow, green striped edges along the bright blue esplanade.  Finished with a repeating white The Lexicon logo, the team have used around 170 square metres of Fun Grass at a depth of 10mm.

    A finely-tuned puzzle

As in the last five installations, the intricacies of each logo piece are pre-made at the company’s cutting facilities in Oakham, Rutland. This year saw the additional pre-cutting of the striped grass sections for each step. The puzzle is then assembled and skillfully installed in situ.

Whilst the end results look seamless and straightforward, it is always a challenging installation – and one to which we love to rise! There’s a lot of preparatory work in the step sections themselves, as well as the assembly and accuracy required to fit and fix the pieces securely and safely in place. However, it’s always worth it when we take a step back and take in the overall effect when it’s complete.

  • Lay it Down Right: Expert Artificial Grass Installation Services

Artificial grass is not only used in playgrounds and business areas but is increasingly more popular for use in residential homes and gardens. It looks beautiful all year round, lasts a long time, and requires little maintenance, so it’s an excellent alternative to real grass. However, in addition to choosing the right artificial grass, it needs to be installed correctly. Here’s everything you need to know about hiring professionals to put down fake grass.

    Understanding the Installation Method

Installing artificial grass is more complex than putting down a green mat. To get a flawless finish that lasts, the area needs to be carefully prepared. The process has several steps:

Site Preparation: The first thing that needs to be done is to clear the area of any existing grass and plants that are there now. To make a smooth area, this could involve digging up the ground.

Base Installation: Artificial grass durability depends on a stable, compacted base. A superior crusher dust including a stabilizing geo-textile barrier should be used and not just a sub-base of stones and gravel.

Laying the Grass: Once the base is ready, the artificial grass is spread out and cut to fit. For a natural look, the grass needs to be positioned and matched correctly before the edges are secured.

Application of Infill:  A specialist silica sand infill is spread on top and brushed into the grass. This not only protects the grass backing but also assists the blades to stand upright and keeps the grass cooler in temperature.

Final Touches: Any seams are carefully checked, the area is cleaned of any debris and the grass is brushed up to achieve the perfect result.

  • Sustainable Artificial Grass: A Greener Alternative

Sustainable Artificial Grass: A Greener Alternative

One big selling feature of artificial grass is how little of an effect it has on the environment. Artificial grass, in contrast to genuine grass, does not require regular watering, herbicides, or fertilizers to maintain its lush appearance. Doing so will reduce your impact on the environment while simultaneously saving you time and money. The use of recycled materials in the production of artificial grass products is another strategy to reduce their environmental effect. Using artificial grass in your landscaping work might help you achieve both a gorgeous lawn and some environmental protection.

Therefore, controlling the prices of artificial grass in South Africa takes work. But, by using the right approach, it is possible to get high-quality grass at a reasonable price. Discover the best deals on artificial grass for your home or business from iGrass by learning about the factors that affect the price and comparing prices from different sellers. When picking out artificial grass, it’s important to put quality first. For all of your artificial grass needs, it is best to go with a reputable company like iGrass. • Artificial Grass is too expensive.

Installing artificial grass indeed has a higher upfront cost. The cost for high-quality products and professional grass installation is more per square foot than seed or sod. However, there are a lot of other factors to weigh before making your decision.

While the upfront costs may be high, the long-term investment can start saving you a ton of money. Turf is very low-maintenance, uses less water, you no longer need harmful herbicides or fertilizers, and you save countless hours you used to spend weeding and mowing your natural lawn.

You do need to factor in that initial cost, but if you’re considering an artificial grass lawn for a play area, a business, or backyard that will see years of use, the long-term investment will pay off.

  • Artificial Lawns have poor drainage.

Here we have a case of “blaming the product for a poor install!” The reality is a properly installed lawn will have excellent drainage. Sometimes even better than the natural lawns out there. The odd gopher, heavy rain, and pet can create uneven pockets in “the real thing” that will accumulate too much water over time. But our artificial turf products are designed to keep your lawn from soggy mishaps.

Make sure you check out our installation tips on our other page. We start with a properly landscaped and graded base comprised of large to small granite, rocks, and sand. This ensures that water will drain faster than packed earth. With the turf itself, we install proper drainage holes and ensure that the whole lawn is sloped in the right direction.

Taking the time to install your turf properly upfront will mean it drains even better than a natural lawn. Plus, you won’t have those pesky critters and mudslides messing up your manicured area.

  • Fake Grass gets too hot!

Product is everything with this one. Indeed, synthetic grass does not benefit from a natural water supply coursing through each blade and root, acting as a natural heat reducer. But there are many options to consider that will significantly reduce the summer scorch.

Lighter colors absorb less of the sun’s rays, reducing overall heat. We also off a variety of infills that are designed to remain cooler.

On big sports fields, the infill is typically comprised of shredded tire rubber, which helps with impact and injury prevention, but can become scorching hot in direct sunlight. In residential playgrounds, several better options are still safe, non-toxic, and cooler.

After all that, a light spray with a hose is often all that’s needed to cool down the lawn enough for kids or pets to enjoy your new lawn.

  • CLEANING ARTIFICIAL GRASS: AN EASY LOW-EFFORT METHOD

It’s good to stay on top of cleaning when it comes to the artificial grass as a build-up of dirt and debris can damage your lawn and be harder to clean later down the line. Here’s the quickest and simplest way to clean your fake lawn.

    1. Lightly brush your artificial grass once a week, or at least every other week, removing any leaves or twigs. A build-up of debris will stop your lawn from draining properly and also encourage weeds to grow. Use a brush with stiff bristles or a plastic rake rather than a metal one and go gently. Too much force could alter the shape of your turf. Brush in the opposite direction of the blades to plump them up and cross-brush the whole lawn to create a fluffy effect. You may need to brush areas with high foot traffic more frequently.
    2. You could also use a leaf blower for an even quicker way to remove garden debris from your lawn. This is best done on a dry day as removing wet leaves with a blower is not very effective.
    3. You should also try to clean your artificial grass with water on a semi-regular basis. Weekly or bi-monthly is good. While rainwater will wash away light dirt, hosing your grass down as well will make sure it always looks healthy and there’s no build-up.
    4. If you notice your artificial lawn is beginning to smell, you can clean it with a vinegar-water or soapy solution. Don’t use bleach as this is far too harsh. Vinegar is great for removing odours from pet urine while vinegar and baking soda are effective for removing stubborn stains. You can also buy specialist artificial grass cleaners. Diluted mineral spirits can be used sparingly on oil-based stains.
    5. For dirt that has hardened, use a plastic spatula, toothbrush, or blunt knife to gently ease it off.
